This week features another favorite of mine: Polysics.
I'm not very good at describing music, so I won't even
try to explain what Polysics sound like. What kind of music
do they do? I don't know, I really can't put my finger on it. It's
kinda like crazy videogame infused rock, pop, punk, techno
... stuff.

I did, however, get the chance to see Polysics live concert
last fall in Boston. It was really great. I even got to meet them
and they all signed my Polysics or Die album. They were very

Comments: The other side to the anticipated Faith/Pureyes release, 'Pureyes' is an upbeat and happy song that's almost impossible to dislike. It's a somewhat uptempo song, with a very cute beat, and Yuna's voice is impressive and effortless. Actually, I think that if anybody else did this song, I wouldn't give it a second listen - but Yuna's vocals fit in perfectly and retain their sweet, powerful sound. I prefer this to 'Faith.' Also, the little bits of English really show Yuna's fluency in English - and I hesitate to say that she actually sounds better in English than Japanese (as she did grow up in Hawaii).

Comments: This is one of Kelly's songs from the demos she made before her AI days. There are several others, but I chose this one, because it's a lesser-known song and Kelly's actually done it very well although it pales to her recent stuff. The song is a soft, yearning ballad that showcases the pureness of Kelly's voice, and her innate ability to emote so beautifully through music. It's quite a sad song, but most of all, you can see Kelly's potential even at such a young age.

Comments: This is a new female girl group from Korea that have been hailed as the female version of SG Wannabe - as they have been trained by SG. So far, their first album has been very impressive - and 'Scent of a Woman' is probably one of the best tracks. It's a very powerful midtempo track that has elements of different styles of music, and all three of the women's voices prove that they're not just another sweet idol band, but they really have musical prowess. Worth checking out! It's well-produced, well-sung, and very cool.

Comments: This is one of those songs that is just so lyrically wrong that it is right. As usual, the PCD set back the women's movement about five years with their music, but it's hard to care when their beats are so funky, fresh, and catchy. Plus, I hate to admit it, but the lead singer actually has a pretty attractive voice. Basically, this song is insanely catchy and I think it's hard NOT to move around to it - it's a bit of a novelty song, but one really can marvel at the power of the production here. And Will.i.am just raps cool, damnit.

Comments: This is that one song that they keep playing during the Olympic commercials, with the hockey players and the new mp3 phones. Anyways, I've had it for awhile, and it's the title track of Yellowcard's second album - an album I was really impressed by. They've certainly got a slightly harder sound since their first release, and I really enjoy this new style of music. Anyways, this is just what you would call a good song - because it mixes everything so seamlessly and the entire song just works in almost every way. It's a very good song to get people pumped up and ready to go, just like the commercial suggests.

Comments: I have to admit it: I like Clay Aiken. I haven't listened to him since that huge peak of popularity he hit after A.I., but recently, I visited his CD (because of AI5 which I shamefully admit to being addicted to) and I still enjoy a few tracks. Say what you want about this guy - he's got one of the most amazing voices out there and it's got such an amazing, romantic sound to it. 'Perfect Day' was probably my favorite song off his title album, and it's just... a really, really nice midtempo song that he actually sounds sincere on for once. It's got uplifting lyrics, a nice background production, and of course, the usual soaring vocals. For once, I think he gets it just right, here.

Comments: This isn't a very well-known band, but I like 'The Gin Blossoms' nonetheless :) They have a very mellow, poignant sound and 'Till I Hear it From You' was one of the first songs I found from them. More than anything, I like the lyrical content of this track, because I like the way it so realistically and simply depicts the issue of trust in a relationship. The guitars sound pretty cool in this song, and the beat of the drum sets a good pace that I think gets people to reflect. There's a bit of an oldschool throwback here, and I really do like this song alot.

Comments: :O After their long haitus, I'm actually surprised what w-inds has offered here with their latest release. Okay, so their voices are as... mehh as ever to me, but the production on this song really makes up for that. This is an upbeat track, with a slight disco influence, that I really think epitomizes a fun, yet genuinely funky feeling. Rather, however, than just being a dance track, this song almost has an epic feeling to it and I think the vocals of w-inds actually improved. I'm quite impressed, and admit to liking this song quite a bit.
